2003 Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize) winner, Nicanor Perlas gave a talk on Multiple Intelligences and how they are evident in Philippine setting at the Baguio Museum last November 11,2011.

Perlas said that society usually focuses on I.Q. and E.Q discounting the other equally important intelligences like appreciative intelligence, intelligence in nature, art, music, etc. He expounded that people tend to focus only on the intellectual aspect of a person ignoring the fact that we also have a ‘Heart Brain’ that has an electromagnetic field and a “Gut Brain” that gives us intuition or a ‘gut feel’. Perlas further stressed that if these things are overlooked during the growing up years of a child, much may be lost. Given this, schools, according to Perlas, should take special pains to ensure a holistic approach in developing how students think, feel, and will.  The speaker also discussed new discoveries on the human brain and the intelligences, what these could bring in the future and what people can do with them to make life better.
